Foxtails that I’ve grown all seem to throw one spear and sit for a long time (weeks to months), at which point they resume normal growth. Apparently when the greenies are much older they can also put out the odd variegated leaf. I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I’m just curious if they’ll all keep this as adults /topic/33571-producing-wodveitchia-seed/ The seeds all had 2 white racing stripes. Therefore, you would expect the foxtails to have the wider leaves.

Here is the 5th seed that failed float test. I picked up a few seed that was on the ground while taking pics. I have 2 that look just like a foxtail. I know of 1 other grower in Cape Coral that gets viable seed.
I am good with the outcome either way, but if you really want to rid yourself of that ‘ugly’ plant,I am ready to adopt. I would LOVE to own that ‘ugly’ palm. I have 3-7g (one slight variegation) I have 3-3g (one slight variegation) I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho!

I hope/expect some new batches to hit the market sometime soon. This is a holy grail palm for many of us PTers. Going to a spot in the Los Angeles area If you know anyone looking who would make a good palm parent send em my way. It’s in a 15 gal but it ideally should go in the ground soon, it’s filled in that pot already. Alas, the time has come.
They can be solid green without any variegation. Can you tell me if this baby foxy gold foxy is a full green ? I bought one like that on eBay recently and it will eventually be planted in a shady/partially sunny area of the garden.
- The green form tends to perform better in full all day sun than the variegated which burns more easily especially in hot dry sun.
- I have plenty of foxtails and Veitchia arecina in the yard so maybe it did a cross back with one of them to become fertile?
- Bigger ” seeder ” at Kopsick sits close to where the collection’s Veitchia grove is located.
- Are they the same as an F1 growth rate?

Erik, the Foxtails were planted many months before the F1 Foxyladies. If so did they sprout around the same time frame? If there are variegated foxladies, they are obvious. What I have noticed is that the width of the foxylady leaves tend to be a little wider and a little more dark hairs on the leaf bases.

- A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established.
- Number 1 on my personal list of favorite feather-leaved / crown shafted palms so i completely understand the allure / desire to grow one ( …or a few, lol )..
- Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber.

- Yep, I was told it’s the mother plant genes that determine the fruit/seed so you can’t tell an F1 hybrid without growing it!

I have a couple of completely green ones in my yard and there isn’t a bit of variegation I think it’s better classifies as mostly green or mostly variegated that’s my conclusion There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation. That palm is 100% solid dark healthy green. David the light must be playing tricks in the photo, this palm has zero variegation. Full greens do not have any variegation.

A guy in my area has them for sale pick up at 200 for a baby 1 gallon pot , he had 4 now he has 3 , i got one today and I am looking forward to watching it grow Regardless, good luck and hopefully you’ll be able to get a hold of this great palm sooner rather than later.. I have little doubt that had it been spring, or this time of year, germination likely would have succeeded. If you’re up to a good challenge, Kopsick Palm – Arboretum in St. Pete has a few specimens, at least one that can / has produced seed.
Most likely a resold Rancho Soledad plant or a Florida import from Sparkman. But if there is actually “zero” movement, your palm is probably already dead. Even in the slowest sickliest palm, you should notice some movement of the spear – even 1/8 of an inch in a week assures that your palm is still alive. If you meant the spear has not moved at all, then your palm was in trouble from day one. You said, “I marked the spear the day it was delivered, and there has been zero growth.”
The real bummer is that I will also eventually have to remove the other big palm in that corner of the garden because it is a Caryota that will eventually flower. I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. Beautiful palm hopefully it pulls through, good luck. Initially that doesn’t look like the LPS I’ve experienced or seen; I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. The core may be rotting, potentially? The line of dark spots is most concerning.
